A46 to Lincoln
This morning we booked out of the Premier Inn in Nottingham and headed to Radcliffe-on-Trent to visit Mercia Smith, Mick's second cousin who lives with her daughter, Helen. We had attended Mercia's husbands funeral yesterday.
They made us very welcome and we had brandy snaps, cake and coffee. I hadn't had brandy snaps for many a year. I think my mother used to make them.
We caught up on some previously unknown family history and Helen showed Mick her collection of digital cameras of which there were many recent models.
After a look around the extensive rear garden we bade farewell and headed off to see a childhood friend of Mick's, Roger Sharpe. Roger lived just down the road from Mick when they were growing up with his sister, Brenda, and his parents.
When Mick was 15 yo, Roger was 13 yo and they were the same height so Roger was destined to be quite tall. He sure was. He reached to 6'4" before he stopped growing.
Roger's father was a policeman in the Nottingham City Police when height was an important qualification, so being tall was likely to be inherited.
We spent several hours chatting about old times. Roger was still the same laid back, cool guy Mick had remembered from all those years ago. The sort of bloke one felt comfortable being with. He and Sue made us feel very welcome in their lovely home backing on to Colwick Woods.
Sadly, it was time to leave and we headed off down the A46 to our hotel for the night, an Ibis Hotel near Lincoln.
Today was overcast but fine.
